Fecha de Celebración
Fiesta de la Candelaria o Fiesta de las Velas, también conocida como Imbolic, Oimelc, Día de Santa Brígida o Brigantia.
Significado Mitológico
Se trata de uno de los sabats o fiesta del fuego más importantes. En la antigüedad, durante esta celebración los fuegos sagrados se encendían sobre las montañas para dar la bienvenida y agradecer la luz y el calor crecientes.
Relación con la Cosecha
Considerando que básicamente se celebra el renacimiento del dios sol así como la veneración de la diosa en su representación de doncella, la relación con la cosecha radica en la llegada de la primeravera, la aparición de las primeras flores, tallos y hojas y la aproximación de épocas mejores para la siembra.
Prácticas y Ritos
Esta fiesta es un buen momento para llevar a cabo hechizos para atraer un nuevo amor, lograr la fertilidad de la mujer, y propiciar la prosperidad de un nuevo proyecto. También se recomienda para realizar rituales y meditaciones cuyo objetivo sea obtener mayor seguridad y creatividad.
Deidades
La fiesta tiene lugar en honor de Brigit, quien es la diosa triple de los celtas, patrona de los herreros, los poetas y los curanderos, su culto y veneración es de los que goza mayor respeto y de mayor duración en Irlanda, su fiesta se ha fundido con el culto cristiano a Santa Brígida de Kildare.
A veces es vista o representada como tres hermanas, hijas del dios Dagda, quien es el padre divino, o como la doncella, la madre y la anciana.
En Imbolic, se celebraba principalmente la representación de la diosa como doncella así como su primera copulación con el dios de la luz.
Alimentos
Se preparan en la cena de esta celebración todos los preparados a base de leche y sus derivados como la crema y los quesos.
Los guisados más comunes o tradicionales de la zona de que se trate y los elaborados a base de ajo, cebolla y pimienta.
También se pueden preparar alimentos cuyo diseño y colorido simbolicen el renacimiento del sol.
Bebidas
Se recomienda preparar y convidar té de angélica el cual trae buena fortuna, además de beber muchísima agua en honor de la diosa Brigit y de la rueda del año, y celebrar la cena de Imbolic con cualquier tipo de vino.
Colores
Para la realización de cualquier ritual, preparación de velas, y curación se recomiendan el blanco, el verde y el azul.
Plantas y Hierbas
Todas las primeras flores del año, y en especial las violetas, primarosas, campanillas y lilas.
Inciensos
Los inciensos recomendados para esta festividad son aquellos que incluyen: angélica, albahaca, benjui, celidona, brezno, lila, vainilla, sándalo y mirra.
